Program still seeking sponsorships • Earlier this year, the Calhoun County Iowa Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) put out a call for applicants for Leadership Calhoun, a leadership development program that will address unique needs and opportunities within the county. Members of the program’s first cohort have been chosen, after what the CCEDC described as a “competitive application process.”
Lake City, Iowa is currently accepting applications for a police officer and a police chief. At the Aug. 4, 2025 City Council meeting, members approved hiring bonuses for both positions.
Tucker Freimuth had the opportunity to show his steer, “Burt Reynolds,” in the Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025. He is the son of Josh and Tiffany Freimuth of Lytton.
"We are eager and energized to welcome back our students, families, and staff as we kick off the 2025–2026 school year," said SCC Superintendent Brad Anderson.
As SCC students return to school for the 2025-2026 year, they’ll be met with many new faces. The district has hired 14 new employees, with more still to come.
The South Central Calhoun Parent-Teacher Organization is gearing up for another active year of supporting students, teachers, and classrooms across the district.
