South Central Calhoun freshman Karson Wuebker continues to work on his craft and along the way he keeps piling up wins on the mat. Wuebker ended his freshman season with a fifth-place finish at state and began work on next season almost immediately.

It’s been 25 years since the 2000 Southern Cal football team won the school’s second state championship.  Many of those players and their families were back in Lake City, Iowa on June 28, 2025 for a reunion that the former Mustangs’ head coach Don Boulware helped organize. The idea, of course, was to remember the amazing 13-0 season which ended in the UNI-Dome as the top team in Class 1A. But for Coach Boulware, the event turned into something far more than remembering a championship season.

Tristin Gorden is headed to the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships in Savannah, Georgia on July 21-27, 2025. The South Central Calhoun sophomore earned her spot in the championship with a first-place finish in the hammer throw at the regionals held in Ames, Iowa.

South Central Calhoun alum Kody Case finally got his chance, making his first start in the Canadian Football League (CFL), and he made the most of it. Case, who plays with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, caught his first CFL touchdown in the fourth quarter against the Calgary Stampeders, an 8-yard TD from Chris Streveler.

County fair season is a nostalgic time for many, whether they have fond memories of showing animals, setting up exhibits, or just having a week of fun. This can be especially true for pageant winners, as they spend an entire year representing their county. We caught up with three past Calhoun County Iowa Expo royalty, who shared their reflections on the experience.

Three were crowned, but all were winners • The Calhoun County Iowa Expo kicked off with the annual pageant, held on the evening of July 8, 2025. No one would envy the judges, who sat before a stage full of qualified candidates eager to represent the county.

Iowa State Senator Tim Kraayenbrink met with the Calhoun County Republican Women (CCRW) on June 19 in Manson. Kraayenbrink represents District 4, which includes Pocahontas, Sac, Calhoun, and Webster Counties.
